Wednesday, October 10th, ASQ will perform in the Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts at California State University, Fresno along with the Series director and pianist Andreas Werz. Here’s a little about Mr. Werz and the Philip Lorenz Memorial series:
Andreas Werz:
Andreas Werz has concertized extensively in the United States, Mexico, France, Italy, Spain and Germany, where he has also recorded for the Suedwestfunk radio station. He has toured Asia performing and giving master classes in Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. In a review of his recording of works by Schumann, Schönberg and Rihm for Thorofon Records, FANFARE praises his “formidable technique and genuine sensitivity” and states, “the cohesive concept behind the program makes it very satisfying to any collector wanting to encounter a thoughtful younger artist with real ideas about music history”.
Andreas Werz was born in Frankfurt, Germany, and began piano lessons at the age of five. He completed studies under Tiny Wirtz (Cologne, Germany), Philip Lorenz (Fresno, California), and James Avery (Freiburg, Germany). In addition, he participated in master classes with Yevgeni Malinin (Moscow), Bruno Leonardo Gelber (Buenos Aires), and Ivan Moravec (New York). At the Freiburg Conservatory he passed the Solistenprüfung which corresponds to the American Doctorate in piano performance “with distinction”. He has received numerous honors at international piano competitions including the G.B. Viotti in Italy, the Joanna Hodges in California, and the Dr. Luis Sigall in Chile.
Andreas Werz is in his 21st year as Professor of Piano at California State University, Fresno. He is also artistic director of the internationally renowned recital series, “Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts”.
Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts:
The mission of Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts is to enhance the quality of life in our community by giving our citizens the opportunity to hear, in an intimate concert setting, highly acclaimed keyboard artists of great experience and reputation, and younger performers of exceptional virtuosity and significant achievement early in their careers. Such artists are customarily heard only in the world’s most exclusive venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Vienna’s Konzerthaus, or the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam where the price of admission is extraordinarily high and access for many in our community is difficult to achieve. Noteworthy artists who have been part of the Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard concerts include Emanuel Ax, Richard Goode, Radu Lupu, Paul Badura-Skoda, the late Ruth Laredo, Angela Hewitt, Garrick Ohlsson, and Philippe Entremont.
